Hmm

Well FF has always taken longer to load than IE, simply because 90% of IE is already loaded with the OS.
Must be environmental differences, I don’t get that tool bar at all.

Didn’t notice the images either. I’ll have a look tonight, I’m stuck with IE6 at work, for security reasons believe it or not.

IE for security reasons??

Isn’t that a bit like having window screens on a submarine for flood prevention?

Watching this thread with interest. I downloaded FF2 yesterday, but did not have time to install. Maybe I’ll wait one more day. Still working with v.1.0.7.

Company policy.
Put FF 2.0 on yesterday, worth it just for the spell checker. You’ve missed a few security updates if you are still on 1.0.7

Installed FF2

Running great. I like the look. I was running 1.0.7 at work and 1.7 at home.

AdBlock is a nice extension. I don’t have to look at that guy in the Dice ad that I had been seeing on about half of my TR page loads. I think they should get a better photo of that dude for their ads.

Get NoScript as well

kills a lot more of the unwanted stuff, once you’ve allowed the ones you need.

Not seeing anything like that.
FF2.0 adblock and noscript and now the spell checker, no other add ons.

Your PC has got SOMETHING

Your PC has got SOMETHING. It may just be pop ups are not blocked. Or, some brand new malware that your defenses do not yet know about.

I upgraded to FF2 yesterday. No problems at all. No pop ups. No odd bookmarks. Nothing.

Note: I do have NOSCRIPT running and it does not allow JavaScript for any website unless I explicitly say so. Those pop ups are likely coming from JavaScript.

Update

I tested FF2 again today, and those smiley pop ups seem to have disappeared. 🙂

I noticed a vertical line appearing when I click on a blank area of the page, the same line you get in a text input field, but it happens all over the place.

When I downloaded FF2, it installed itself on top of the existing Firefox, without a murmer. Which I found odd, as programs normally prompt you when upgrading.

I called up a web page that I already knew needed a Java plug in to display correctly. FF2 did indeed spot that it was missing and offered to install the missing plug in. Which was great, but I got suspicious when it took over 20 mins to do that on a DSL connection.
I checked, and found that it hadn’t installed “just a plug in”. FF2 had installed the whole Java package:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Which is some “plug in”, weighing in at 119MB !!!!

Oh well, at least those darn smileys have gone 🙂
