Firefox, Internet Explorer and Ping

By statykserver ·
I have a pc with XP sp2 isntalled that can browse the internet with no problem using the firefox browser. Internet explorer will work for a while then it stops working at different times. When it stops working I can STILL browse using firefox and of course I can still ping websites but Outlook 2003 also stops working when I am having this problem with IE. Only after I reboot will this problem be temporarily fixed until a few hours later another incident. I reboot everyday and have all the latest updates, cleaned out all cache & temp files. Does anyone have a fix for &/or know whats going on?

sounds like spyware to me, probably one of those reinfecting ones
i would download, install, update and run in safe mode with system restore turned off these two programs in order
ad-aware se personal from www.lavasoftusa.com
and hijack this from www.downloads.com
run them, see your system work ok for a while then explorer errors then run them again and post what it finds.
you need to be in safe mode with system restore turned off or the spyware remover can't get those files cleaned and you will reinfect immediately
i believe you will see what i mean about reinfection. when you do, remember that www.ewido.com has free spyware remover download that can remove 'nail' (as long as you are in safe mode with system restore turned off)
also scan with anti-virus but save that for last

I didn't mention that I have pestpatrol installed and it didn't show anything. I went ahead and installed adaware and ran it, it only found cookies which I removed anyway. System restore is off but the problem hasn't reoccured yet. I'm still monitoring it. Will post any results.

Unknown! Well the problem still hasn't reoccurred so maybe the adaware helped out. Who knows, it used to happen sometimes 2 times a day and now it hasn't happened once in about 2 days, left puzzled. Anyway thanks for answer.
