Firefox problem

By ozi Eagle ·
I have a fuhhy occurring in Firefox.

System WinXP SP2 all updates.

For some time now I have a error message popping up when I download stuff.

Something along the lines of there not being a disk in the drive ( a & g ) have come up.

Clicking on the CONTINUE button and it works some more, then the message pops up again. Repeatedly click continue gets me to the end of the download, which has worked perfectly.

Firefox is setup to automatically download to a folder called "My Downloads" and, apart from this problem, does exactly that.

Running V 1.0.6 of Firefox. Have tried to update but won't do it.
Zone Alarm is configured to allow Firefox to access the internet, and I don't have any other troubles with Firefox.

Can anyone help?

I'm not sure, but I think your problem is the temporary folder where the download put the files what you are downloading. See the settings of temporary folder, if this exist and also the rights for accessing this folder.

For IE this folder is Internet Temporary Files, and you can limited the size of this folder. Even this can be a problem, but this under IE. Under Firefox I don?t know where is this.

You could try downloading the new version of firefox straight from the web rather than using the update function.

Funny, I rated this yesterday!

Anyway, I downloaded and installed FF 1.5 (both as update and clean install ). Seems to have solved my original problem, but now won't let me download and install Google toolbar. Something about software installation not allow, edit options. Have tried as per Google instructions, but there is no " allow software installation " function that I can find .

Does a download in IE work OK? If so, I would concur that a download of the newer version will help. Uninstall the old version prior to the new install.

If IE has the same problem, let us know.

Did you install Firefox 1.0.6 over a previous version of Firefox?

If so, from time to time files and configuration settings that change between versions can cause conflicts.

Also, older extensions and the download managers that some web sites force you to use can cause conflicts for Firefox.

I recommend that you:

Download Firefox 1.5

Back up your profile folder.

From add / remove programs, remove Firefox.

Install Firefox 1.5.

It should find and use your profile and settings.

If not, recover what you need from your backup.

If you are still having problems, check for running download managers.
