firewall hardware and software

By shawnasea ·
I would like a recommendation of hardware for home LAN, so that the outside world only can see one IP Address.
Thanks
Shawn

firewall hardware and software

Assuming you have cable or DSL service at home, my advice is to get a cable/DSL firewall router. There are some very inexpensive ones from NetGear or LinkSys that include a small hub that is usually 4 or 6 ports that should be adequate for your home network. These routers are practically self-configurable and include DHCP and NAT services automatically pre-configured. Just about all you have to do is configure the connection to your ISP and plug everything in. The last one I think we got for a client was a LinkSys model BEFSR41. This one comes with a 6-port hub, I think. Hope this helps!
