Firewall issue

by dmammone . Updated 18 years, 11 months ago

I have a WinXP SP2 machine that had trouble loading the Software hive file into the registry. I was able to restore the original backup of the hive and got the machine back up and running.

Now, a month later, I find that some things have not been restored. The current issue is that “Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display the Windows Firewall Settings.” I also have no contents in the Security Center. I found an error directly related to this in the Event Viewer… Event ID 7000, SCM, “The Security Center service failed to start due to the following error: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service.” I found that the Security Center service wasn’t running. I tried to start it an got the same error that was seen in the event log. I looked at the properties of the service and found that the Service name is WSCSVC using the executable “svchost.exe -k netsvcs”.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
