    will IPSec make firewall obsolete?

      To elaborate a little on eebywater’s answer:
      IPSEC is used mostly to secure connections between computers (the main use being with VPN’s). This secures communications to an extent, but if you are using a computer that needs to surf the web, online gaming, etc., you will not be using IPSEC for that communication.
      This is one area where a firewall will come into play.
