Firewall's - VPN

By wblarkin ·
I am a novice at VPN setup.. Can anyone tell me where the ULTIMATE online resource is for VPN & Firewalls is? An online tutorial would also be nice.. Mainly I need help on UDP / TCP and Port setup to allow for a VPN connection through a broadband router. Thanks for ALL help..

The broadband router needs to support IPSEC or L2TP passthrough. Also, the system you are connecting through has to allow those ports. Cox will allow VPN client connections if you buy their business service. Some don't care, but you might see a forced reset of your connection every now and then. Don't complain as you might be violating your terms of service.

I think I can safely say there is no ULTIMATE on-line resource because it is heavily dependent on the particular router and VPN client that you're trying to make work.

For example, the Cisco VPN client requires, by default, TCP Port 10000 and that's it. PPTP and IPSec have their own requirements as do other proprietary VPN solutions. And it makes a great deal of difference whether you're using NAT (I assume you are) or PAT (I assume you're not).

Also, different firewalls have different peculiarities.

I've found you get the best answers if you just post what you're trying to do and what you have to work with. Chances are that someone on the forum will have already done something similar with the same products you're using.
