Firewire Info

I just got an external hard drive that uses the Firewire (IEEE 1394) technology. So far, it performs perfectly … and fast. I am having trouble finding backup software for it though. I am using Windows Me on a Dell PC (I know its not a MAC). No network. Just want to do regular system backups, not cloning. Also, does anyone have experience with the UMAX scanner that utilizes Firewire? If so, what is your opinion?

Backup for the FireWire drive will depend
on what backup software you use and
correctly setting up FW drive on your
system.

As for the UMAX FireWire scanner, it has
been extremely well reviewed. FireWire’s
transfer rate is WAY faster than the USB
rate which has supplanted SCSI for so
many scanners (at least on Macs)
recently. However, where it is the right
scanner for you will depend on what
computer you are using. All the new
Macs only have FireWire and USB
connections, not SCSI – so you are limited
to one or the other unless you get a
seperate SCSI card. And of those two,
FireWire is better (wider is better, as it
were).

A suggestion or something to try:

Have you used the built in backup services installed with the OS? It should matter what medium you are using (ethernet, scsi, firewire) as long as the drive is loaded and working properly on your machine.

Try a generaic search on your machine for “backup”
