First Consulting Job

By jped ·
Hello,

I have been asked to do my first small consulting job. The company just bought a Dell server with Windows 2003. They want me to setup th server and allow for remote access. I need some help on what to charge for this. Please offer any advice or point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

Easy... and difficult

by Tig2 In reply to First Consulting Job

I define my hourly rate based on the going rate in my area. Then estimate the hours required to do the work. Add 10% (covers travel and unforseen problems). Do the math and write the bid.

Be prepared to negotiate. I am always willing to revisit my estimates if the client gives me feedback that the quote is too high. Generally we can arrive at a number that all can live with.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I'll check around my are to see what others are charging and go from there. Thanks for the additional 10%, I hadn't thought about that.

I appreciate your response and your help!
