Fixing Microsoft OS problems with live cd- Slax

By agile ·
Hi, I was wondering will it be possible to fix Microsoft Windows XP problems without having to reinstall the OS by just using the Linux Live Cd, Slax.

You need a filesystem that can read/write NTFS volumes such as ntfs-3g and a registry editor called chntpw (see http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/)

Depends on what it is that you need to fix

If it's just replacing a corrupt File yes it's possible actually you could even replace just about every Windows File if necessary but it wouldn't be worth it in a time prospective.

It would be faster to do a Repair Install unless you had Encrypted the Files and then you would need to extract both the files and Encryption keys before proceeding.

The directions for a repair install are here
