Flashback to 2007 to a prediction about Iraq:

by maxwell edison . Updated 17 years, 4 months ago

Barack Obama in 2007:

Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama, in a speech in Iowa Wednesday, called for the immediate drawdown of U.S. combat troops in Iraq. Under the Illinois senator’s plan, combat brigades would immediately begin withdrawing one or two brigades at a time, with a complete withdrawal by the end of 2008, CNN reported. “Let me be clear: There is no military solution in Iraq, and there never was. The best way to protect our security and to pressure Iraq’s leaders to resolve their civil war is to immediately begin to remove our combat troops,” Obama said in his speech. Not in six months or one year — now. Obama reminded his audience in Clinton, Iowa, that he opposed the war in Iraq “from the beginning.”

A question I asked in 2007:

”How would a Democrat President handle the war against terrorism – including the war in Iraq, the tensions with Iran, Homeland Security, Middle-East policy, border security, etc.?

My answer in 2007:

….. a Democrat president would do little or nothing different.

There will be no pullout of Iraq, regardless of who wins the White House in 2008, Democrat or Republican. U.S. troops will remain a formidable force in Iraq until the Iraqis are fully capable of defending themselves against their hostile neighbors and terrorist factions within their own borders – regardless of how long it might take. Even then, the U.S. will maintain a very strong presence. We will not turn our backs on the Iraqis.

All of the anti-Bush and anti-Iraq war rants are all political. And the Democrat’s ranting the loudest all know it. The Democrats, however, should one of them win the White House, will absolutely destroy their own (his/her own) credibility as a result. This goes likewise for the Democrats in Congress who will, with a small fringe exception, go along with the war. And the war against radical Islam will continue. In fact, I believe it will actually escalate, but perhaps in ways unnoticed by the general public.

I wonder what all the Democrats out there will think if one of their candidates wins, but continues the very policy he/she continually campaigned against. Just like President Bush said quite a few years ago, the war that was started on his watch will continue through future administrations. And they all know it to be true. The Democrats have done a grave disservice to all involved for not publicly stating what they know privately, and especially for publicly saying just the opposite, all for political expediency.

I almost hope a Democrat DOES win the White House in 2008 just so I can be proven right. (Mark this message for future reference.)

In 2008, President Bush set the stage for a reduction of a significant number of troops by the end of 2010 – but not ALL troops:

Iraq and the U.S. are near an agreement on all American combat troops leaving Iraq by October 2010, with the last personnel out three years after that, two Iraqi officials told The Associated Press on Thursday…..

And today:

Just like I predicted, ….. a Democrat president would do little or nothing different.

I wonder what all of the people who supported Obama’s immediate drawdown of U.S. combat troops in Iraq are thinking today? I know the answer, however, and it’s exactly like I said in 2007.

Edit:

By the way, did Barack Obama LIE?

And worth repeating:

As a disclaimer, I’m of the firm belief that the attacks directed at President Bush are 99.9% political, and only .1% substance. I’m also a firm believer that “those in the know” realize the dangerous world in which we live, the real threat Radical Islam (and Iran) poses, the “state of war” Iran is actually waging against the USA, etc., and ANY Democrat president would do little or nothing different.

In my opinion, the way President Bush was treated by Democrats and their partners in the media is one of the most shameful things I’ve ever witnessed.
