Floppy access denied

By phrreakk ·
Hello I am using Windows XP Prof with multiple users. I have 2 Admins, and 1 limited user, and they all need access to the floppy drive. The admins get there fine but the user gets a "Access Denied" error message and I can't find anything anywhere in the Local Security properties about it. I have looked on the Internet and microsoft support but with no luck. If someone can please help me I would really appreciate it. Thanks again

1. I'm not sure about WinXp but in WinNT you can use "floplock" from resource kit to restrict the access to floppy drive. It detect which user is logon to the system and grant or not access to floppy drive.
2. Check in: Control panel/Administrative tools/Local security policy/Security options/Restrict floppy access to locally logged-on user only.
3. Other software which can denied the access.

I assume that this is a Stand-alone computer and that it looks to be a problem with the "User Account".

Try to create another limited user account and check if the drive is functional.

Also, log on as the limited user and check in the Device Manager for the Floppy drive device settings. May be you can try to refresh the drivers for once to check if there is a problem with the device driver and its permissions.

This should help.

Is this a stand alone machine?

Check the user account to see if you blocked access to the floppy drive.

See if another user account can access the floppy. Try with one of the accounts that have administrative access.

Check to see if you applied a group or local policy to block access to the floppy.

To check to see if a policy applies, go to start, run type gpedit.msc and click OK

Make sure the floppy cable is connected inside the case.
