Floppy Drive

By superman79 ·
I work at a library and here we are running windows 2000 on dell gx100. the problem is that sometime the floppy drive takes a long time to read the diskettes and sometimes it cant read them at all. I know i read somewhere here about a jumper that might be set wrong or something.anyways I sometimes get the disk needs to be formatted, even though it had read it fine in an earlier occasion. Can any one tell me what the problem might be?
thank you

In this instance, I would first suspect a dirty drive.
**** out the drive with canned air.
And possibly try a floppy drive head cleaner.

Have you recently replaced the drive? I would try another drive. They are cheap and almost obsolete.

I agree with all the solutions, but another thing to check is that the disks are put in right. It sounds stupid, but I remember that when we had dells at tafe, the disks have to be put exactly into place. It can be real difficult at times!

Check the floppy in another computer, it could be a bad cable...
