Floppy drive seeks

By pondlily ·
The floppy drive on one computer in our office "seeks" even when that computer is not in use and there are no programs running, and it is not logged on to the network. There are no disks in the drive. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this would occur?

Some anti viruses Like The old Norton used to do that. If you disable the feature to make it check the floppy driveb you might overcome it. Also Microsoft Findfast sometimes has an effect. Try remove it from the Startup menu and then reboot the PC and see if that changes anything.

Cheers ....

this was a problem with some older compaqs and others. you may see a patch on the mfr's support website.
may be a virus. some virus's check for a floppy at random times in order to infect it. run your anti-virus software to check.
may be your anti-virus program. it also will sometimes randomly check your floppy drive for infected media. check you anti-virus documentation to turn off "online" floppy detection.
