Floppy drive..changed to Removable drive

By crystal2 ·
It is a windows 98 se computer. The floppy drive is inaccessable in windows or dos. It is properly dectected in the bios. However, Under "my system" in windows it is displaying the floppy drive as a "Removable drive A". Everything is hooked up properly inside the case.

this prob. appeared prior to a major sys. trouble....( somehow after another person used the system, system files had disappeared.) Had reinstalled windows, and the drive prob is still present.

Any Ideas?

Floppy drive..changed to Removable drive

there are no yellow question marks in device manager, and it claims everything is working fine....

Removed drivers for the floppy, and let windows dectect it to no avail. I am thinking it is more the physical drive not being able to read disks. sometimes the drive is "locked", and others " drive not ready" message. ( disks were not write-protected either.)
