Folder and file synchronization

By jmoody76 ·
I have a desktop computer running Windows 2000 Professional and a laptop running Windows XP and I would like to be able to synchronize a few folders with my documents so I can have a current copy on both computers. Currently I am copying the entirefolder from one computer and copying it to the other computer which takes along time or I have to copy each file as I make changes. Is there a better and faster way to do this? Windows 2000 has offline folders and I assume that Windows XP has themas well but does that have to be run from a server or can it be run between two clients? If that is not a good way to go are there any good programs that can make this task easier? Thanks for your help.

"If you've got Windows 2000, a notebook, and a network, you've got all the ingredients to successfully use Offline Files and Folders. Unlike the truly lame Briefcase feature, this elegant synchronization tool is firmly integrated with Windows Explorer and doesn't require a lot of extra work on your part."

"Offline Files and Folders work best when your data is well organized, with all your key files stored in shared folders on network drives. To synchronize files between your notebook and thenetwork, right-click on a file or folder icon and click Make Available Offline. Synchronization is automatic. To further configure offline synchronization, open an Explorer window, choose Tools, Synchronize, and then click the Setup button."

"To work with offline files,".......

Another possibility:

"FolderMatch is an award-winning Windows utility that makes it quick and easy to compare and synchronize the contents of two folders. It is a "must-have" insurance against loss of valuable data. Never again be stuck with out of date data. Never again lose critical information."
