Folder/File Permissions

By BPorter ·
This should be some simple points. I am transferring data from our Novell server to our NT4 server. I have set the permissions at RWX/RWXD for a group called ALL and then the Admin group is Full Control. When I log in as a normal user, I can read, but can't write - I get an error message saying that the file/folder is set as read only. I've changed the All group permissions to Full Control, but get the same results. If I log in as me or if I add the normal user to the Admin group, it worksfine.

To me that sounds like a Policy issue instead of permissions. Any thoughts/help?

TIA

Byron

Folder/File Permissions

Hi, do have have share permissions set up as well as ntfs? In such a case, even if a user has full control locally but read over the network, the effective permission would be read since it is the most restrictive. Otherwise, I too would begin looking at the possiblity of policies, especially custom policies.

Did you release the Novell File Attributes before you transferred the files?

No - I am assuming I should have. How would I go about correcting this without having to re-transfer the files?
