Folder problem

I am trying to install SolidWorks, a CAD program. In doing this I wind up with two folders on the system with identical names. One has the software in it the other is empty. I cannot delete the folder as XP thinks it’s a system folder. I cannot delete it in DOS mode and I cannot remove it by modifying the registry.
HELP? Anyone every run into this or know if this is something specific about Solidworks? I have not got an answer from the vendor either…
