folder redirection

by michael.valentino . Updated 17 years, 7 months ago

I have a situation, where when I apply folder redirection group policy to the ‘my documents’ folder and check the setting move the contents of my documents to the new location, the timestamps of the files change to the date of the redirection or move of the files from the local machine to the network folder ,
this includes the creation date of the file, not just the modified or access date.
this is a problem because some users have a lot of historical data that they need to search for based on dates.
the set up is windows server 2003 standard R2 64b as DC’s , windows xp laptops for the users, the users home directories where i redirect the my documents folder are located on a NetApp appliance as a file server.

Further, if I uncheck the ‘move contents of my documents’ setting and manually move the file the following scenario happens

manual copy and paste to the new directory results in date accessed retaining the original timestamp, the other 2 change

manual cut and paste results in date accessed and date created retaining the original timestamp only date modified changes

I would be grateful for any ideas anyone might have
Thanks
