Folder Security / Sharing

By sdalessio ·
How can I set specific user rights over a shared folder on a Windows XP Pro operating system PC, this is a peer to peer LAN. When I select to share the folder I do not get the option to define specific user rights as I did on PCs running Windows 2000 Pro.

Please help

You need to disable ?Use Simple File Sharing?.

From Windows Explorer, Tools | Folder Options.. | View | Advanced settings and uncheck ?Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended)?

This will allow each folder and file to have ?Security? tab to set permission for Groups or users.

To get file system security the file system
must be ntfs. run the convert utility to convert
the file system to ntfs the the Security tab will
be displayed.
