Font Problem in Word

By damonguy ·
One of my users has a machine which is working fine in all respects. However, Word fails to display more than two available fonts. The other MS programs have font available. I assume that this indicates that there is a Word problem.

I have been unable to trace the reason for this failure to display fonts. In the other programs fonts work and print so I assume that something is not configured right in Word, or some sort of library, driver or access problem has occured.

I cannot find anything on this on the MS knowledge base and have no reason to suppose that fonts have been disabled by the machine.

The machine fonts folder appears normal and displays a full range of fonts.

Any ideas anyone?

Open the registry and look in the local machine\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\fonts and look for fonts with files that have a directory as part of their path. e.g. H:\Program Files\Printshop\stagecoach.ttf, as opposed to just stagecoach.ttd. Delete those entries. Copy the ttf file to the windows\fonts directory, if it is not there.

I have found that if the .ttf file is in the fonts directory, and there is an entry in the registry pointing to a different file, even if that fileexists, windows sees neither font.

Another possibility. If you are using NT or 2000, log in as administrator and see if the fonts appear. If so, check the user's rights to the fonts.

thanks for your help, we did this and were unable to get any change. In the end the problem was related to the printer driver.
