Forced Proxy

By AriesE6 ·
I am trying to figure out how to set the proxy as "on" for each profile on a WinNT pc so the user cannot turn it off. I know how to do this for Win98, but the same reg edit doesn't seem to cover all users on an NT machine. HKLM\Soft..\Pol..\Mic..\etc. doesn't seem to cover every profile.

Forced Proxy

by TimTheToolMan In reply to Forced Proxy

Hi,

A better way to do this is to only allow access to the internet through the proxy server AT THE PROXY SERVER. Then they have no choice.

One possible configuration is to have the proxy server with two nics. One goes to the firewall (or dsl connection or however you connect to the internet) and the other goes onto your LAN.

If you're dead set on forcing this at the client end, though, you can use the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) to create a script that runs when IE is started and does the following...

1. Disables changes to the script setting.
2. Sets and Disables changes to the proxy server field

Its configured in the browser under internet options-> Connections -> LAN settings on XP and it'll be in a similar spot for NT

The script should be read only and live on a secure server somewhere.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Tim.
