Forgot to install new disk controller drivers w/new mobo install

By scottag ·
I've installed new mobo's a number of times w/out problem; but this time I forgot to install new hard disk controller drivers when I installed a new mobo. So, on initial boot of XP I got BSOD and error: Stop: 0x0000007e. I then tried to do a repair of XP and so now I can't boot into safe mode.

Is there any way to use Remote Console to load new disk controller drivers, w/out doing a full install of XP? Really new help!!

Just wipe and re-install.

This time, press F8 when prompted and install the drivers.

I don't know how you can remote in to a machine which has no operating system.

If you can still reach the Recovery Console, here are the available options: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058

It may be as simple as copying the driver file to %systemroot%\system32\drivers. An INF or similar file would go into the INF folder. Hopefully, Windows can find and use these at boot time. Otherwise, you'd have to find the appropriate registry entries and manually import them from the command line in Recovery Console.
