Forgot XP profile password

My 6-year old niece decided to password protect her profile on her new computer with Win-XP and then promptly forgot it. While in a computer store I read of a fix for this which concerned, among many steps, needing a floppy disc. I was too cheap to pay the $34 for the book and was hoping that somebody might know the steps to this process.
