Formatted floppy on W2K not recognized.

By scottr ·
I have recently run into a problem with formatting floppies on W2K Professional machines. When the Floppy is formatted on these machines they cannot be read on previous versions of Windows. (i.e. 95,98,XP) My theory is that W2K Professional formats with a more advanced structure so they older OS's cannot read the disk. This has been tested on numerous machines with the same result. I would appreciate any assistance that you can offer, or if you have run into the same thing and have a work around.

Hi,

Not that I'm aware of. FAT is FAT whether it comes from Win2K or Win98.

Its more likely that you have a virus or that the alignment on the drives is different between the Win2K machines you've tested on and the Win9x machines you've testedwith.

I've certainly seen my share of floppies that can only be read in the drive they were formatted in (and have trouble in other drives) but never a straight incompatibility issues from a software point of view!

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Tim.
