OK, I FDISK'ed this hard drive and rebooted to Format the C: dr like normal before installing windows. During the format of the drive it stopped the formating and is now "Trying to recover allocation unit" then you see a 6 digit # scrolling up 1 at a time. This is a new one for me, just asking cuz it has been doing this for about 5 hours now. The numbers are currently at 583,356 and going up. any info would help alot. thanks

I think your hard disk is damaged physically. Try filling it completely with zeroesand re-formatting it.You can use the Disk Manager software from www.ontrack.com.
The hard drive has damaged areas, and it is scanning the bad sectors which will become unusable. It will scan the entire drive to move the bad sectors to the end.
