my friend wants to format his xp home service
pack 2 and needs 4 partitions and has hard disk
capacity of 80GB. Which one would be better to
format using NTFs or FAT32.

NTFS has more overhead than FAT32.
But FAT32 will have larger cluster sizes than NTFS.

Depending on partition size, I would be apt to go with mixed formatting on this drive.

Any partition smaller than 10 GB "may" make better use of disk space with FAT32.

Partitions larger than 20GB will be better off with NTFS.

I would want the boot/OS partition to be NTFS if it were my system.

Definitely NTFS, more reliable.
