Formulas in Excel

By MAL4462 ·
How would I go about creating a formula that contains both text and a formula? For example say I have the number 3000 in cell F4 and in cell F5 I want it to automatically fill in "The number is 3000." Is this possible and if so how do I go about doing it?

Using this example you would simply go to cell f5 and enter =+f4 .This would show 3000 in both cells. I think you may be wanting to do something more elaborate. If so please comment and provide the details. Off hand I might suggest the concatenate formula to add text from multiple locations to a single box.

Here is the Answer.
I didn't quite get your qestion at first.

In F5 type
=+CONCATENATE(G4," ",F4)

Type "The number is" into G4

type 3000 into F4

F5 will display The Number is 3000

Obviously G4 is an arbitrary location that can be anywhere in the spreadsheet.

Good luck!

You can format the cell using any part of this Custom format:

"The number is " #,##0;[Red]"This is a minus " #,##0;[Blue]"Zero";"This is a text entry"

In a formula, you could use:
="The number is "&SUM(A1:A11)
& is used to concatenate or join values.
The Formula becomes a text entry; the custom format allows the answer to be easily used in other computations.
