FoxPro 2.6 on XP Home machine

    Locked

    by wordworker ·

Anybody had any experience getting FoxPro 2.6 to play nice on a Windows XP box? After installing a compiled EXE on the XP machine, it won’t print.

Its been over a decade since FoxPro 2.6 has been released. Think about finding a later version.

I have tried telling my client the same thing. I was invited (dragged) into this mess after two Macophiles tried to “help.”

I used Fox Pro back then

I worked with a FoxPro developer in the late 80s, installed a version and learned some basic reporting on the Mac.

The last time I ran into an issue, we were trying to use an old FoxPro version, tested it on NT4.0 and found it failed, until we brought it into a newer version of FoxPro. We were forced to make the move due to Y2K issues.

Visual FoxPro was developed on the Mac(but not released) before Microsoft bought the company. It was a rare example of something that started on the PC platform, migrated to the Mac, and then back.

…get FoxPro 2.6 to run under WXP! It’s insane. I’m going to quote them an astronomical amount of money to rewrite the thing using a modern tool and see what happens.

Some people would rather spend countless hours trying to make obsolete hardware and software work in modern computers. Your best course of action is to give a guesstimate how much it would cost to make the old junk work vs what it would cost to replace with something more modern. If they insist on keeping the old, make sure you charge for all of the time you spend.

          Good luck.

Virtual PC. Install windows 98. Copy over your program. I have been looking for a solution to your problem for four years.

      Alternatively, search for QEMU.

It is supposed to help also as Virtual PC is expensive.

      Good luck.

Foxpro 2.6 Application running on Win’XP Machine Won’t Print on Printer

Your Application developed in foxpro uses type like in dos, or uses set print on in foxpro and then send listing on printer. It will send your printing text on LPT1 printer port. If you are using Inkjet/Laser Printer on XP Machine then it will not print, please ensure you are using dot matrix or line printer using LPT1 printer port for printing.

Please check and do the needful.

I do hope your application will print on LPT1 printer port.

      Thanks

Map a printer to LPT1 and you should be able to print.
