I’m new to a Foxpro shop and was told this problem has been occuring for years – ever since custom tables have been created in the company’s Foxpro database. A dbf data/schema is fine one day and the very next day the data in the dbf table is lost and the table schema becomes another tables schema, i’ve no idea to do or not to do dbf repair. The Foxpro program reading from or writing to the corrupt table throws program error such as “Variable ‘HOUSE’ is not found. This is because the table no longer has a column called ‘house’ so the program thinks ‘HOUSE’ is a variable. The project/program has to be analyzed to determine which table was corrupted and the table has to be restored from back-up. Nobody seems to know the cause and it’s always a custom (in-house) created table (not a table that came with their front-end Foxpro application). It happens at least once a month, various programs, various custom tables.
