FQDN in Global Catalog

By jasonb ·
I have 7 W2K servers which all are DC. The company I support all use the same name in the begining of the FQDN. These 7 servers are in 3 different domain but when I look into Global Catalog buy Network Place, Directory I see all 3 domain listed as same name but when I go into one I then see at to of the box the FQDN. Does anyone know how to display the FQDN all the time? Or at least where I see each FQDN in Directory.

FQDN in Global Catalog

by maxwell edison In reply to FQDN in Global Catalog

ASPDNS is an ASP component that provides simple Domain Name Service (DNS) Lookups from your ASP pages. This simply means that the component can be used to resolve internet hostnames such as www.microsoft.com into their IP Addresses. Alternatively, it can be used to rseolve an IP Address (such as 196.15.200.26) into a fully qualified domain name.

The component is a form of freeware. It can be downloaded from here (1,473,840 bytes).

If you have Visual Basic V5.0 SP3 runtimes already loaded on your system, you can download the bare DLL (19,456 bytes) by clicking here.

(Same link)

You can then register it yourself using regsvr32.exe. If you are not fully conversant with component registration or are not sure if you have the required runtimes, rather download the full installation.

ASPDNS is very simple to use. It provides the following two methods : GetIPFromName(strHostName) Retrieves the IP Address for a given hostname, GetNameFromIP(strIPAddress) Retrieves the FQDN for a given IP Address.

I don't see how ASPDNS is going to help me. My problem is not with DNS being resolved. My problem is that company which I support most domain start with the same Domain name so when you search the Global Catalog you see multiple entries with the same name, it's not until you go into each can you tell which Domain your looking at. I'm looking for a way to display the FQDN at the top of Global Catalog.
