I’ve a 2 frame web page – header and main frame. Using Frontpage 2000. In the header I’ve a drop down menu with links loading in the main frame. Some of the links work fine. The links which work are external links such as links to Yahoo, etc.
Wealso want to link to our own web pages. We want to load ‘info.htm’ and ‘gallery.htm’. The problem is we can’t get these internal (relative?) links to load in the main frame the same way that the others load. We’ve tried many java menues. They all all work fine BUT only with external links: they never ever work with my own pages.
Warning: I’ve pursued this problem for 4 weeks, and even emailed microsoft. Most of the replies have been baffling or just a hyper-url-link to another site that “explains everything”.
It’s been suggested the problem is with the urls. Apparently, the urls for the local pages should be in absolute form. Thus –is wrong : the last 2 links should be otheriwise figured. How I don’t know. Something to do with the domain name of my computer. Idon’t know my domain if I have one, so that’s a problem. Even so, we’ve another site using a 2 frames with a menu loading its pages OK in the main frame (see www.jerichobooks.com). We never had to detail the links for this site in a long-styled domain name manner. Why is that our new site now with drop down menu requires it?
On this, if it is that we’ve to somehow make the local links domain style (however one does that and whatever it is ?) does that mean when we ftp the pages to our ISP the links won’t work? It would seem the links would be referring to files on our computer. That just leaves more baffled.
