I guess the all important word here is free...I have an excellent Dell MFP Printer and I have at least 4 or 5 years of documents that I just want to scan...but I need to organize all these documents, thus the need for a free software program.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

If so, then you can try IrfanView! It's one of the handiest imaging softwares available for the Windows platform, and it's free. www.irfanview.com In the "File" menu is where you can select your "twain source" for scanning. Some printers come with software packages as well. My Lexmark did, it's one of those "all in one" gadgets...not fancy, but it works well.
edit to add: if I remember correctly, the Lexmark software also included ABBYY Finereader for handling documents and such... I don't think it's free, except for a free trial. Might be worth a look though?! I checked, the price for the "express" version is $49.99...might be too expensive.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
FREE DOCUMENT IMAGING MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE?
Can anyone recommend any good free document imaging management software?
I googled it and found this article, http://www.auditmypc.com/free-document-management-software.asp , but I've never really heard of any of these
