free NTBackup alternative

By Reginald937 ·
I'm looking for a free alternative to NTBackup to install and use on a Windows Server 2000 machine and was wondering if anyone knows of any good, reliable tools?

The backups will be taking place on a daily basis and will be going to 12GB tapes, so scheduling is essential, media management features would also be nice.

The client (with their infinite wisdom) has opted not to purchase a third party backup application that can actually backup!

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Free usually means not supported..

by NormH3 In reply to free NTBackup alternative

The problem with free stuff, is that if there is some catastrophe, you have no where to turn for support. If something "bad" happens at this client due to the free utility it may be your butt in the sling. I would think twice about suggesting an unsupported product for such an important job. If you do end up suggesting something, I would get them to sign a disclaimor that it was their decision to go that route. Backups are an insurance policy. Ask them if they would run their business without proper insurance to protect themselves. Sorry for the lecture, but I speak from experience.

Cobian Backup

Try Cobian Backup. It is free and very robust.

I have used it before and it works very well.

Good luck,
