“Freeware” needs Redefinition

by deiceray . Updated 19 years, 3 months ago

I have a bone to pick with ZDNet: you apparently do not understand the difference between “free” and “limited trial” and “not free at all.”
I just downloaded the “Freeware” iclone – it’s not. It’s a 15 day trial, that is to say you will have to PAY for something called FREEWARE. So I’m sick of the deception, and I’m speaking out. I’m not adverse to Shareware, or Trialware, or Freeware. I just want them to be HONEST about it. The only thing “free” is the download on way too many software offerings.
PLEASE – if it’s not *free*, which is defined as “AT NO COST TO THE USER,” then DON’T call it ‘free.’
SO I urge everyone to write an email or make a post here to turn in these misrepresented softwares. Post their names, write to ZDNet, let’s just keep it honest. I simply want to know what I’m downloading for real before I bother.
