Freeze on startup

By sometypeof ·
I have a 1.8Ghz computer running 256MB RAM and Windows XP Home. My problem is that when i start up windows, almost every time it freezes when the Windows XP Home screen shows with the status bar. I asked a friend about this and he suggested it might be a hard disk error, so i downloaded SeaTools from Seagate's website which found 3 bad sectors (which i deleted/overwrote in the hope this would fix the problem!!). However the file system scan failed. I am unsure what to do now, as i am constantly turning off the computer and rebooting to try and get it going (which can't be good for the computer!!!)

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

buy a new drive.

Bad sectors can be marked so that data isn't written to them [subsequently lost]Norton Disk Doctor can do this and theres tons of other utilities that can scan, find, mark bad sectors so that data isn't written to them. However, bad sectors are indicative of a damaged drive [shock, vibration, damage]

More than likely it's spyware. Try downloading AdAware 1.5 from Lavasoft's website @ http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

And Microsoft's AntiSpyware Beta1 @:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

More times than I'd like to count I've had customers come to me with the same issue(s). And this fixes it everytime.

One good indicator, besides your current situation, is a slow responding machine. Give a shot, HTH
