Freeze on Windows install

by charlie.thompson@totalise . Updated 25 years ago

HI wondered if anyone could help with this – I have a 800MHz Duron CPU with Maxtor 15G HD, 128M RAM, PCI internal modem, Panasonic SR-8585-C DVD-ROM drive. The HD is on IDE0 DVD on IDE1. When I try to install Windows (95 or 98)I boot OK from floopy and load CD drivers, I can then run setup from the DVD-ROM, all goes well up until the “Copying files to hard drive …” step. A varying percentage of files are copied (between 7 and 27 %) then the whole instal freezes. The DVD-ROM light is out and there is also no HDD activity. I have left upto 20 mins to see if it will resume – NO LUCK. The problem is the same for Win98 and 95. Anyone any ideas ??
