Freezes durnig boot sequence

By eraser3498 ·
I have a K7T266 Pro Ver 1.0 motherboard with 256MB of DDR memory, AMD 1700+, and a savage 64MB video card. I just got the motherboard back from MSI via RMA. It's a brand new board and when I go to boot it up it keeps freezing in various tages of theboot sequence. I have no error messages or beep codes and as far as a know all the hardware is in good working order. Does anyone know what could be causing the computer to freeze. Thanks for the help.

The only thing you have to check is processor.
Memory error means beeps.

Remove all cards (excepted video), hard drive, CD, floppy, boot and enter bios. load bios/setup default. And wait.

If it doesn't freeze, add peripherals, one at a time.
And check for overheat.

From what it sounds like you're replacing what you thought was a bad motherboard, is that correct? If so that might not have been the original problem.

When you say various stages it would be helpfull if you descirbed exactly where the boot process is. By this I mean does it halt before any video is displayed or does it happen durring the start of the OS or after the OS has started. The differences between these can make a big difference in trying to figure out the problem.

If the cooling fan on the CPU has ever stopped its toasted.

Clear the CMOS and start from stratch. Use the book that came with the motherboard and closely follow the steps for setting up the PC. Make sure the memory is compatible.

As mentioned only install memory add the video card. If successful put in devices one at a time.

The only thing I can add to what has been said before is to check that all your power plugs, cards, cpu. memory chips, and cables are cleasn and been properly seated in the right positions, especially the flat ribbon cables, get one end turned around and you can have problems.
