Freezing Up during Internet connection

By KbKmTmTw ·
I have a computer that I had to re-install Windows XP on. Everything works great EXCEPT now every time I connect (via DSL connection) to the Internet the computer will freeze up within a short time after connecting. In order to continue I have to close out of it, connect again, and within a short time the computer freezes up again. I don't know how to fix it or stop this from happening - any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you re-apply every patch/hotfix for XP, including the patches to prevent the Blaster worm, and the newer Sasser worm?
It could be you don't have a patch for one (or both) of these, and the viruses are hitting your machine. When they do, things get stuck.
So, if you don't have the machine fully patched, then do so, then see if it still sticks.

and run Ad-aware to relieve yourself of spyware as that will be trying to clog up your bandwidth also. download and install the trial ware version of zonealarm then you can see what is happening...

I have come accross this issue a lot of times and this is happening because of a bad browser helper object in IE. to remove this u need to run the BHOdeamon. But U will not be able to go to that because IE would freeze!!! as a small workaround.. do the following first...

-->Start-->Control Panel-->Internet OPtions
Click on the advanced tab
here uncheck "Enable third Party Browser extensions(requires restart)" option and then click ok and restart the computer. Now You would be able to connect to the internet.
Go to and download bhodeamon and run it. It will give you a list of BHO;s found on your computer, double click on each of them and select disable. and then close that window. Restart the computer. Go to internet options and put a check back on the enable third party browser extension again (this is important as the other gud Bho's should work)

After this your IE should work fine. As a precaution you can run this wonderfull online spyware utility and remove all those crap sitting on your computer...

its run it from the site and that wud do wonders.....

all the best
