Frequent Hangs, Shut offs, Dumpings

By mrkrach ·
I have workstationg with the configuration of PIII-650, Memory 192 MB, HDD 10GB. Everything seems to work fine when the CPU cabinet cover kept open but often it hangs, starts memory dumping or shuts of after a while cabinet cover replaced back. I tried chaning the SMPS, reinstalling NT (almost few times) though these actions did not solve my problem. Any help in this regard from the hitech guy is appreciated.

Thanx in advance....

well, sure sounds like heat problem if solved by removing cover. why did it work before and not now, you ask? maybe it is a computer with (poorly) engineered air flow and requires cables to be laid in a path that won't impede airflow.
maybe this is in left field but did have your exact problem with older GW2k tower once. left it open for months until the light bulb went on...
while you are in there, check all the fans for crud and see that they spin...vacuum all the dirt out of vents on outside case and inside case power supply. get out all loose stuff that will get sucked back into vents when you turn it on.
if this is what is happening and is off the shelf computer, the mfg will know about it...

HI shultz, I am very thankful to your effort. I have had already ensured all the fans are working with no hurdles in airflow and all dirt had been cleaned while carrying the preventive maintenance recently. But the same system is working fine from few days. I don't know when it will start annoying again. Any further help is appreciated.

Had a similar problem a while back turned out to be when the cover was on the motherboard was being forced down just a little and causing a short.
