Friday Nite Music - April 10, 2009 - Playlist Competition

By boxfiddler Moderator ·
Put together a playlist of your top 10 favorite tunes. You know, those must haves that are always on your mp3 device. It's ok if some of your songs are the same as some of the other poster?s songs.

Posting begins this evening, 7ish pm ET, and ends Sunday night, midnight ET.

7pm ET = 4pm PT = 6pm CT

Anything posted after Sunday, April 12, 2009, midnight ET will not be eligible for competition, but will likely be listened to.

Genres are:
Rock and Roll: broad enough to include Oldies, Motown, Heavy Metal and Alternative Rock, Soft and Pop Rock.
Country: broad enough to include Folk and Bluegrass.
Artsy Fartsy: Hopefully broad enough to include what's left.
IDK: I don't know what genre it is but I like it, or a mix of the above.

Contestants may post a single playlist entry to any three of the above genres. A maximum of three playlists, one per genre, may be posted.
Each genre is a sub-thread of this post. Post your playlist to the correct sub-thread. Incorrect posts will be disqualified.
Post title should be "your username" -- Playlist - Genre(boxfiddler -- playlist -- Artsy Fartsy).
Link to a playlist put together at imeem, youtube, etc...
If you're not a member of an online audio/video service, all ten song links in one post will do.

If you haven't yet come out to play for Friday Nite Music, make this weekend your weekend to play.
A poll will magically appear sometime next week.
Posting, and non-posting peers are encouraged to vote.

As usual, commentary and jokes and general fun is encouraged.
Blame Artsy Fartsy on JD. B-)

Lose the steenkeeen question marks. :0

Michael Jay - Play List - Rock and Roll

by Michael Jay In reply to Rock and Roll

Lets start it off with Boston and one of my favs;

Don't Look Back - Boston

Another totally great song, so well done;

Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty

Yes, it had to be played;

Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd

A Zep fan from the beginning, some good post Zep;

Big Log - Robert Plant

Toto, no I won't say it, a very nice piece;

Kansas - Dust In the Wind

Zep, always one of my favorites;

The Rain Song - Led Zeppelin

And perhaps my most favorite Zep effort is this;

Led Zeppelin - Kashmir - Earls Court 1975

A lotta people call Journey the "also ran band" this I do believe is their best effort;

Separate Ways - Journey

Hard to choose among the many Genesis tunes, you know with or without Phil, or was it better with Peter, anyway;

No Reply - Genesis

A new piece from Eagles, very nice;

Long Road Out Of Eden - Eagles

Ok then, this is my rather long entry. Hope you took the time to enjoy each song.

Walk of Life by Dire Straits

Call Me the Breeze by Lynyrd Skynyrd (J.J. Cale cover)

Wasted on the Way by Crosby, Stills and Nash

Don't Think Twice, It's Alright by Bob Dylan (original acoustic version)

End of the Line by The Traveling Wilburys (George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.) http://www.imeem.com/rockvideos/video/dhxHOKY1/traveling-wilburys-end-of-the-line-music-video/

The guitar sitting in the rocking chair - how powerful is that? Roy Orbison was alive - and contributed - when the music was recorded, but died before the video was made. The guitar in the rocking chair was his widow's idea.

Lodi by Credence Clearwater Revival

Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones

Say You Love Me by Fleetwood Mac

Teach Your Children by Crosby, Stills and Nash

Tupelo Honey by Van Morrison

(Edited to get rid of those nagging question marks, and to fix the links that didn't work.)

Of course, the "Make it last" is Montrose, not Van Halen.

Edit to add playlist:

1) White Zombie - Thunder Kiss 65.
2) Metalica - Sad but true
3) Iron Maiden - Hallowed be thy name
4) Montrose - Make it last
5) Judas Priest - Diamonds and rust
6) Queensryche - Jet city woman
7) Megadeth - Peace sells (but who's buying?)
Black Label Society - Stillborn (acoustic)
9) Stone Sour - Bother
10) Kiss - Love gun

Edit to add: Reading the list does not do ANY of these lists justice, especially when an alternate version has been selected.

Explanation: since Google and YouTube had their bust up, it's getting increasingly hard to get decent video links from YouTube over here for certain videos. I've had to make some substitutions along the way, despite already having videos downloaded for the MP4. Thank goodness for lastmusic.com!..

not easy. Should really have been 10 Quo's!.. :)

(enjoy, NickNeilsen )

Status Quo

Rockin all over the world

4500 times

Party ain't over yet

Beginning of the End

Status Quo - Living on an Island

Living on the Edge,

Love in an Elevator,

Walk this Way.

Aerosmith - Crazy

Queen, Fat Bottomed Girls

Edit: what the **** is with the question marks?

The Scummy One -- Playlist -- Rock N Roll

by The Scummy One In reply to Rock and Roll

Ok, so here goes. Personally, I have no real favorites. I have songs that I like from many bands. What song I like from any band changes per my mood. In any event, for the list I went to my ipod. I picked the first 10 bands that popped into my head (while writing them down), and waited for the first song to be played by that band on the ipod.
But that wouldn?t have made the best playlist. Since it was being voted on, I changed some up a bit.

AC/DC ? Shook Me All Night Long

Motley Crue ? Too Fast For Love

Y&T ? Summertime Girls

Dokken ? It?s Not Love

Skid Row ? Youth Gone Wild

Def Leppard ? Comin Under Fire

Poison ? Nothing but a Good Time

Ozzy Osbourne ? Over the Mountain

Scorpions ? No One Like You

Kiss ? Rock N Roll All Night
