Hi, i am working as a software / web developer (employee) for 2 years now. I had a B.E. in computer engineering before that period. I would like to make a change in my job, in such a way that i don't sit all day developing, but instead i have a mix between developing, and let's say offering IT consultancy to clients. I wonder what's the correct way to be followed in order to achieve that shift; should i start searching for such job openings (any well known companies in the consultancy field?), or should i first pursue a certification in a specific field to reach an advanced level in order to become a consultant in it afterwards... any advice from people who already made such shift would be appreciated

There are 2 options. For me I stayed technical and started contracting. So I'm still in the trenches with one client at a time for months at a time. I make way more money and don't have to do much marketing. You just go after contract opportunities on the job sites. I wouldn't worry about certifications but if you find that you are being turned down because of it you might want to get one. Option 2 is you start going after clients yourself. This is more difficult but would lead to having more clients simultaneously and doing less technical work. You could provide web design services. Start with something you know. Get some clients and then start to sub work to other people and focus more on marketing.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
