FTP cannot connect

by bigsparky . Updated 22 years, 10 months ago

We upgraded to cable internet with a wireless router in January. Ever since I have unable to FTP to my website, hosted by tripod.com. After several days of troubleshooting and discussion with the tripod people I am out of ideas so I turn to you folks. Here is my data:

1. I have no problem connecting to other FTP sites, both anonymously and
ones I have accounts on, this is why I cotacted Tripod first, I thought it might be
they’re problem.

2. I know it’s not simply that the site is busy ’cause I can use
net2ftp.com to get access it and I can access it from other locations. (ie school)

3. Specs
ROUTER TYPE: Siemens wireless Speedstream 2624
NIC ADAPTER TYPE:Siemens wireless USB SS1022
OS: ALL computers win98se
NOTE: there are3 PCs on our LAN, I tried two of them, one connected
wirelessly and one connected via cat5 directly to the router.

4. Error messages
Normally I use the built in Dreamweaver ftp client but when that failed I
tried ws_ftp. Here is a copy of the message log:

WINSOCK.DLL: Microsoft wsock32.dll, ver2.2, 32bit of Apr 22 1999, at
20:29:32.
WS_FTP LE 5.08 2000.01.13, Copyright ? 1992-2000 Ipswitch, Inc.

Connected to 209.202.197.150 port 21
! Receiveerror: Blocking call cancelled
! Connection failed ftp.tripod.com

5. Things I have tried
I also tried the ftp.exe that comes with win98 but it just appears to
hang after the “Connecting” message and eventually comes back with
“Connection failed”, which is similar to the Dreamweaver ftp.
I tried different settings in ws_ftp, passive mode enabled/disabled (I tried both),
messed with the firewall settings etc, still doesn’t work.
I began to suspect the wireless router that we installed when we
upgraded to cable internet. I tried disabling the firewall that is built into the router,
(we have no software firewall) I tried setting my computer in the “DMZ”
