FTP server in W2000 halts on dir listing

by Shanghai Sam In reply to FTP server in W2000 halts ...

Hi Lars,

I found the following extract from the release notes from ServU

Version 2.5c Released 8 February 2000
-------------------------------------
* Fixed bug causing ill-formed Windows' links (shortcuts) to crash the server.
* Fixed bug using ports in certain commands which caused server to hang.
* Fixed problem in dealing with characters values over hex F0 in paths.
* Fixed handling of UNC paths, was fixed in v2.5a, broken again in v2.5b.

This was for version 2.5c and mentionsoccasions where the server would hang. I presume you have a ServU version later than that, though? Its pretty old...

Did you get the same symptoms when you used Microsoft's FTP? I presume you were using IIS?

Do you get any of the ls (or dir)? Or does it hang straight away?

Is it the whole server that hangs? Or just ServU?

How about gets and puts? Do they happen ok? Or is there some problem there too?

Have you looked in the event logs for any messages? You could also do a performance monitor to a log and look at the FTP process in detail up to the hang. That may help...and maybe not...

Let us know how you go,

Cheers,
Tim.
