FTP Server security

By stergios_nik ·
Hello.

I have an IIS 4 web server and I plan to create an FTP server on that machine in order to give to my users FTP access from outside to their personal folders.

Do you suggest any security measures that should I take into consideration before making this setup?

I.e. Shall I place a hard disk in another server and make it accessible through my IIS 4?

Any other suggestions to increase security? Could you tell me any web links that might help me?

Thank you in advance.

Please be aware that ftp sends passwords in clear text over the internet.

can you explain what folders the users need to access ?
and what exactly you want to accomplish, it's a little vague to me.

regarding security measure: install them (IIS and ftp behind a firewall, don't allow anonymous access, try to use th windows authentication, depends what needed give only the nessary perimissions to the groups (like read, or create).
I would rather havet the ftp server on a seperate machine ( but then I don;t get why you want it access it via the IIS ?)

btw there is a tab called directory security, you could create a group and assign permissions to that group so they can access the folder that you want.
