FTP with MS Proxy

By David Shang ·
I can not use FTP and PING commands to connect to outside MS Proxy Server from proxy clients, what setup I need to do (server and client)?
Thanks.

The ping command does not work inside of Proxy Server because proxy only works with TCP and UDP packets -

http://support.microsoft.com/Support/proxy/faq/apps/102.asp

The FTP command DOES work (and I used it all the time before we removed ProxyServer in favor of Win2K Server NAT)...

A couple questions - Do you have the Proxy Client installed on the workstation and is the FTP protocol open on the Proxy Server?

You cannot use the ping command from behind a Proxy server - the proxy server does not allow ICMP packets. However, you should be able to use FTP. FTP uses the Winsock Proxy client, not the Web Proxy client, so you must have the WSP client installed on the workstation(s) and the Winsock Proxy service must be running on the server as well as the Web Proxy. Hope this helps!
