    FTP won’t upload but downloads

    Locked

    by gmeyer ·

Here is a good on for you to think about. I am running Win98se and am connected to the Internet with a PacBell DSL line using PPPoE. In running an ftp connection to our corporate server over VPN connection, I can upload, delete rename and change attributes on server files. If I try to upload a file, I get about 8K to move then the connection slowly tapers off until it stops. I am using CuteFTP as a client and NTS Enternet300 for PPPoE.
I have had quite a time trying to Make ICS work with PPPoEand Enternet even though they claim it supports PPPoE and ICS. Anyone have any thoughts?

Just a wild idea – permissions. Have you got read only permissions on the FTP server, or on the Folder where your trying to upload?

try going into your dos promt and FTP from there. if you do not know how I am sure your SYADMIN will explain to you. See if that works. Also FTP needs not only port 21 but also port 20 which is the data port. You can sometimes get around it by using passive mode.

Check for packet loss, on both routers. I take it you meant to say DOWNLOAD instead of upload.?

Never heard of PPPoE, maybe you just mean PPP, a layer-2 connection oriented service, and running it under the VPN, which is normal. Like i said, youmay wwant to check for packet loss by using ping command with -l -f switches for packet sizes.

You may want to contact your DSL provider in regards to this issue. If I am not mistaken the DSL Connection most likely has a slower transfer rate for uploads than downloads. You may be able to tweak this in order to increase the uploads speed. Iam interested in hearing the end result and how you resolved this issue.
