FTTD vs Copper to the Desk

By david.kozischek ·
Does anybody have any information that shows a FTTD network performance is better than a CTTD network. I am looking for things like input errors, frame errors, crc errors-things typically associated with cabling problems

I don't know any reason to run FTTD unless there is a distance issue. Otherwise, performance is the same, yet copper is obviously the more practical choice.

Unless distance, interference and or
noise is an issue. Performance is Approx
the same.
I agree with the other answer.

I have looked at fiber to the desk top. The reasons for doing this are this:
you have a very bad enviroment electricially.like a lot of big machines lights crappy wire. If you install good wire useing 568a standards you will be ok.

two you know you will be running gigethernet to the desktop. The fiber will future proof you as far as cabling is concerned. pay me now or pay me later type thing.

three your campus is spreed out all over gods half acre and you want to get all the wall outlet in one place for management reasons.
Other than this there is no advantage of fiber over copper. look at vj45 or mtrj to see a desktop solution. The cost is about 75% more for cableing but the real kicker is the hubs and switches.

hope this helps
