Full Duplex Enviroment Problem

By jmoss ·
While running on a Half-Duplex network. When loading DOS drivers to pull an image down from the network, in which I had already done on the same system before. Somehow the card sets itself to a full Duplex mode and will not work anymore in DOS. It is a SMC 1211. How can I change it back to 10bps?

SMC cards are problematic

I have seen this problem before. Try using the autosense feature of the card. They are pretty good at detecting speed and duplex. If that fails, try it from a windows environment. DOS drivers lack the configuration abilities in windows.

Updating Network Adapter

by hemlocke In reply to Full Duplex Enviroment Pr ...

Go to Device Manager
Go to Network Adapters
Go to Properties of NIC
Go to Advanced
Go to Link Speed & Duplex
Update to 10 bps

You can update this also through cmd script or Run line similar to this:

open regedit from Run line
Find all entries of Duplex and Speed
Export to notepad (save under a new folder)
*.reg can be updated via right-click and edit in notepad
find all entires applicable and update one *.reg file
From local machine update registry (after backing up original) from run line with:
regedit /s c:\new folder\test.reg
once test is successful, create login script that runs "regedit /s %netlogon%\test.reg"

once updated, make an image with the updated Registry entires and image a new machine.

verify that the Duplex setting is 10 mbps half duplex or whatever you'd like it to be.

Regards
