Funny looking domains coming up in Netwo

By kneighbor ·
There are 2 differnt domains coming up ? Its weird because I got this message on my server named ett_08, the server was unable to logon the Windows NT account 'IUSR_ETT_08' due to the following error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. The data is the error code. and the funny looking domains look like o|8| ?? Any clue

Well believe it or not I have had this happen to me before too, and actually twice for 2 different reasons so I will answer twice: answer 1 ours was caused by we think someone screwing wiith an NT machine or setting up a new server as a BDC and actually setting it up as a PDC or someones WINS Database went corrupt and replicated out, the main cause is still unknown however to clear it out you need to force replication of a new clean WINS database company wide. Which is a pain and a half. but itwill fix it.

and Answer Number 2 which I doubt but worth a shot since it did happen to me, Nic Card went bad on a server that was Running WINS but was still working sort of, but that was enough to drive you nuts tracking that down too. Anyway I would look at WINS databases heavy that is where your problem lies for sure.
